Here is one of the amps in Bluetone family. It is based on Marshall Plexi Lead amp, but with some my own modifications. The amp in pictures has V1 NOS Mullard ECC83, V2 Tungsol ECC83, V3 JJ ECC803S and 2 x Tungsol EL34B + a silicon recitfier giving some 50W output power. One mod was to leave four different input jacks away and use only one input jack and adding a switch where you can select Normal channel or Bright channel or both channels in parallel same time. This combination works fine and leaves space in face plate to other purposes. The other mod was to add VVR (Variable Voltage Control) to amp and scale amp output power with it. I scaled the whole amp. This means that all plate voltages and bias voltages change according VVR-potentiometer movements. With  VVR you can go as low as 30 volts in power tubes plates which means a bedroom noise level.

In this particular amp I used mainly Sozo capacitors in signal path, carbon film resistors and a Mercury Magnetics Vintage output transformer to capture the original Plexi sound.

Sound clips

Following Bluetone Plexi Lead with Black Tolex clips were played by Ykä Putkinen 20.4.2009 with a Gibson Les Paul Gold Top from fifties. Speaker was a 2×12″ Celestion Greenpack in closed back cabin. Input switch was in parallel mode in all clips. Normal Volume control was in 1 o`clock PM and Bright Volume control was in 5 o`clock PM in all clips. Master Volume was in 5 o`clock PM in first clip and in 12 o`clock in other clips.
